Chiropractic was discovered in 1895 by D.D. Palmer in Davenport, Iowa. His son B.J. Palmer expanded on his father’s teachings through more extensive research and helped to found modern chiropractic as we know it today.
Chiropractic is the detection and correction of vertebral subluxations by use of the hands. Vertebral Subluxations are vertebral segments which have lost their proper juxtaposition or alignment in relation to the vertebral segments above or below thus placing pressure on the disc, nerve and other associated soft tissue in the region leading to degenerative processes to take place throughout the spine as well as throughout the body.
Chiropractic medicine states that removing subluxations from the body not only benefit the spine but the body as a whole. It is this holistic treatment that has made chiropractic the leading form of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Chiropractic states that by removing these subluxations from the spine the nervous system will be able to function more efficiently thus improving the function of the entire body.
