Chiropractic Neurology

The central nervous system is comprised of the brain and spinal cord. These structures are so important to our survival that our bodies have completely surrounded them by a fortress of bone being the skull and spine, respectively. The spine is the outer encasement protecting the spinal cord which is part of the central nervous system.

There are 24 vertebral segments in the spine which also articulates with the occiput superiorly and the sacrum and ilium inferiorly. Each vertebrae has a disc which acts as a cushion or shock absorber between the vertebrae. Exiting from either side of the spine from the intra-vertebral foramen are the nerve roots. These nerve roots connect centrally with the spinal cord. The spinal cord is connected directly to the brain through the brain stem which passes through the upper cervical region.

The nervous system controls and coordinates all other organ systems in the body and can be thought of as the motherboard of every human. It is through this manipulation of the spine that we can directly influence the central nervous system and thus improve our health. Chiropractors focus on the treatment of Neuro-Muscular disorders such as: neck and back pain, TMJ disorder, carpal tunnel, pinched nerves, sciatica, golfers & tennis elbow, sprained ankles, and other sports injuries through natural manual means without drugs or surgery.
